Mary Hedenstrom has been a co-instructor with the Monarch Lab since 2006. The Monarchs in the Classroom program has greatly influenced Mary's instruction, providing experience in learning and teaching about inquiry. As an elementary instructor, Mary started two native plant gardens to attract wildlife to urban schoolyards. She enjoys integrating science in to all instructional areas using state standards to direct instruction. She and her students have studied butterfly rearing, phenology, pillbugs, sowbugs, milkweed beetles and the art of Maria Sibylla Merian as a scientific artist.
