Harmony Lewis is currently the math specialist at Mahtomedi Middle School. This position allows her to be a resource to other teachers in the building as well as being the lead math teacher for several student cohorts throughout the day. Previously she taught 6th grade for the Roseville School District and was responsible for all the core subjects. In 2004, Harmony was a participant in one of the Monarchs in the Classroom courses and was quickly amazed by how easily the content motivated students to be curious learners of science. This drove her to work with students to create a butterfly garden learning area at her school. The following summer she began working with the Schoolyard Ecology Explorations program to help develop new teacher courses. This is now her 6th summer working at the U of M, where each year she continues to be inspired by both the University scientists and the teacher participants.
